Description
Domaine Georges Roumier’s Chambolle-Musigny 2022 is a finely tuned expression of one of Burgundy’s most enchanting villages. Crafted from Pinot Noir in the heart of the Côte de Nuits, it balances delicacy and depth, perfume and precision, in a style that has made Roumier’s wines some of the most sought-after in the region. This village cuvée offers a rare chance to experience the domaine’s hallmark elegance without stepping into grand cru territory, while still capturing the magic of Chambolle’s silken texture and floral charm.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, Chambolle-Musigny 2022 typically shows a luminous ruby color with youthful violet highlights, hinting at both freshness and concentration. The nose is graceful and layered, often evoking red berries and stone fruits alongside Chambolle’s signature florals—think peony, rose petal and a touch of blood orange zest, supported by subtle spice and a delicate mineral edge.
On the palate, this wine tends toward medium to medium-plus body, with a supple, flowing texture and finely knit tannins that feel silky rather than firm. Expect a core of fragrant red fruit—raspberry, wild strawberry and cherry—wrapped in lively acidity that keeps everything vibrant and precise. The finish is long, lifted and perfumed, making the wine already highly appealing in its youth. While accessible early, proper cellaring over 8–12 years (and potentially longer in ideal conditions) will allow the aromatics to gain complexity and the structure to fully harmonize.
Production
Domaine Georges Roumier sources this cuvée from carefully selected parcels within the Chambolle-Musigny appellation, where thin, limestone-rich soils over marl and fragmented rock lend finesse, tension and a distinctly floral profile to Pinot Noir. The domaine practices meticulous vineyard work—low yields, careful canopy management and hand-harvesting—to ensure only perfectly ripe, healthy grapes reach the cellar. After sorting, the fruit is traditionally vinified in stainless steel or wooden vats, with gentle extraction to preserve purity and elegance rather than power. Aging typically takes place in French oak barrels, a portion of which are new, for about 12–18 months, allowing the wine to gain structure and complexity without overshadowing its delicate aromatics.
Food & Serving
Chambolle-Musigny 2022 shines at the table with refined yet subtly flavorful dishes that respect its elegance. It pairs beautifully with roast chicken or guinea fowl, veal with morel cream, duck breast with cherries, or delicately sauced pork. Earthy dishes such as mushroom fricassée, truffled potato gratin and savory tarts are excellent matches, as are mild, soft cheeses like Reblochon, Brillat-Savarin or a young Comté. Serve at 15–16°C (59–61°F) to showcase its perfume and freshness; a gentle decant of 30–45 minutes in the wine’s youth can help the bouquet open, while older bottles are best served straight from the bottle with minimal aeration.
Producer
Founded in the mid-20th century and based in the village of Chambolle-Musigny, Domaine Georges Roumier has become one of Burgundy’s benchmark estates, renowned for producing wines of remarkable purity, precision and longevity. Under the stewardship of the Roumier family, the domaine has patiently built an enviable collection of village, premier cru and grand cru holdings, primarily in Chambolle-Musigny, Morey-Saint-Denis and Corton-Charlemagne. Their reputation rests on an unwavering commitment to meticulous vineyard work, restrained yet confident winemaking and an ability to translate subtle differences in terroir into distinct, characterful wines. Today, bottles from Roumier are among the most coveted in the Côte de Nuits, widely regarded as reference points for what great, classically styled Burgundy can be.
