Domaine G. Roumier Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru 2000

Domaine G. Roumier’s Bonnes-Mares is one of Burgundy’s most celebrated Grand Cru expressions, combining the vineyard’s natural depth with the domaine’s famously precise touch. From the historic parcels between Chambolle-Musigny and Morey-Saint-Denis, this 2000 vintage captures a beautiful balance of generosity, finesse and aged complexity.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, the wine shows a mature, harmonious profile with a graceful garnet hue. Aromas of ripe cherry, dried raspberry, forest floor and a subtle hint of truffle lead the way, reflecting both the vintage and the bottle’s evolution. The palate is rounded and silky, with soft tannins, discreet acidity and a fine mineral thread that keeps the wine lifted and fresh. Rather than power, it offers poise and layered nuance, and it is now in a very flattering drinking window. While it can still hold for a short period, its peak elegance is available now.

Production
Bonnes-Mares is sourced from Roumier’s classic holdings in a terroir of limestone, marl and iron-rich clay, a combination that lends the wine its structure, depth and mineral edge. The 2000 vintage was early and generous, producing wines with supple fruit and moderate tannin. The grapes were hand-harvested, partially de-stemmed and fermented with native yeasts, then aged for around 16–18 months in oak barrels with a measured use of new wood.

Food & Serving
This Grand Cru pairs beautifully with roast duck, pigeon, game birds, mushroom dishes, veal or beef fillet, and refined dishes featuring truffle or forest mushrooms. Serve at around 15–17°C, and consider opening the bottle ahead of time or giving it a gentle decant if needed, especially to remove sediment and allow the aromatics to unfold.
