Description

Domaine François Raveneau’s Chablis 1er Cru Montée de Tonnerre 2002 is a benchmark expression of mature Chablis, combining precision, depth, and remarkable mineral drive. Sourced from one of the appellation’s most admired premier cru sites, it shows the kind of elegance and structure that has made Raveneau a reference point for Chardonnay in Burgundy.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it presents a refined, luminous gold hue that reflects its maturity. The nose opens with citrus, white flowers, and a subtle stony minerality, gradually unfolding into more layered notes as the wine breathes. On the palate, it is concentrated and focused, with generous texture balanced by a vibrant line of acidity. The finish is long, clean, and distinctly mineral, with the fruit and structure now beautifully integrated. While it is at a very rewarding stage today, it still has the potential to evolve gracefully over the next few years.

Production
Montée de Tonnerre is one of Chablis’ most celebrated premier cru vineyards, known for its excellent exposure and classic Kimmeridgian limestone soils that lend tension, salinity, and precision to the wines. Domaine François Raveneau is renowned for low-yield farming and meticulous vineyard work, with harvesting done by hand to preserve fruit quality. Vinification is traditional and restrained, allowing the terroir and vintage character to remain at the forefront.

Food & Serving
This wine pairs beautifully with shellfish, oysters, grilled lobster, seared scallops, and delicate white fish, as well as poultry in cream-based sauces or simply prepared risotto with mushrooms. Serve slightly chilled, ideally around 10–12°C, and decanting is generally not necessary, though a short period in the glass can help the wine раскры its full aromatic range.

Producer
Domaine François Raveneau is one of the most revered names in Chablis, with a reputation built on precision, consistency, and exceptional site expression. The domaine has become legendary among Burgundy collectors for producing some of the region’s most sought-after Chardonnay wines, and its premier crus and grands crus are widely regarded as reference points for the appellation.
