Description
Domaine Fourrier’s Gevrey-Chambertin Premier Cru Clos Saint-Jacques Vieilles Vignes 2014 is one of the domaine’s most celebrated wines, drawn from a site many Burgundy lovers consider to have Grand Cru-level potential. Made from old-vine Pinot Noir in one of Gevrey-Chambertin’s most prestigious climats, it combines depth, precision, and exceptional ageing capacity in a style that has made Fourrier a reference point in the region.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows the deep, polished colour typical of serious Burgundy, with an inviting brightness rather than heaviness. The bouquet is highly expressive, unfolding with red cherry, raspberry, rose petal, spice, crushed stone, forest floor, and a subtle smoky nuance.
The palate is concentrated yet remarkably silky, with vivid acidity carrying layers of pure red fruit, mineral tension, and refined earthy complexity. The finish is long, detailed, and elegant, with impressive structure underneath the wine’s poise. While already compelling, it has the balance and depth to evolve beautifully for many years, gaining further nuance and savoury complexity with cellaring.
Production
Clos Saint-Jacques is one of Gevrey-Chambertin’s most revered Premier Cru vineyards, known for its limestone-rich soils and exceptional exposition, which together give wines both power and finesse. Fourrier’s Vieilles Vignes parcels are planted with very old Pinot Noir vines, contributing naturally low yields, concentration, and aromatic intensity. The domaine is known for a terroir-driven approach and careful vinification that preserves freshness, transparency, and the vineyard’s mineral signature.
Food & Serving
Best served with refined dishes such as roast duck, pigeon, lamb rack, game birds, mushroom risotto, or truffle-based cuisine. Serve at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for about 1–2 hours if drinking young, to allow the wine’s aromatics and texture to fully open.
Producer
Domaine Fourrier is a highly respected Gevrey-Chambertin estate led for many years by Jean-Marie Fourrier, and today regarded as one of Burgundy’s most sought-after producers. The domaine has built its reputation on precision, purity, and a restrained winemaking style that allows vineyard character to shine. Its wines are widely admired for their elegance, age-worthiness, and remarkable clarity, earning the estate a prominent place among top producers in Burgundy.
