Description

Domaine Etienne Sauzet Puligny-Montrachet Perrières 1er Cru 2019 is a striking expression of one of Puligny’s most revered limestone sites, showing the precision, energy, and mineral drive that have made Sauzet a benchmark producer in Burgundy. The 2019 vintage brings a little more ripeness and breadth, but the wine remains taut, focused, and unmistakably elegant—an excellent example of why this site is so highly prized.

Tasting Notes
The wine pours a bright, luminous pale gold in the glass. Aromatically, it opens with a subtle reductive note before unfolding into orchard fruit, citrus zest, toasted nuts, and fresh-baked bread, all framed by a cool, stony minerality. On the palate, it is medium to full-bodied yet remarkably tense and vibrant, with flavors of citrus, white peach, orange peel, and a saline, chalky core that speaks clearly of Perrières’ rocky soils and excellent drainage. The acidity is lively and seamless, giving the wine a linear, almost electric feel. The finish is long, precise, and mineral-driven, with lingering notes of flint and salinity. This is a wine with excellent aging potential and should develop beautifully over the next 10 to 15 years.

Production
This Premier Cru comes from Perrières, one of the most distinctive sites in Puligny-Montrachet, where limestone-rich soils and excellent exposure give wines their characteristic finesse, tension, and mineral depth. Domaine Etienne Sauzet is known for careful, site-sensitive viticulture, with harvesting carried out by hand and grapes selected for purity and balance. Vinification is traditionally Burgundian, aiming to preserve the vineyard’s clarity and texture while allowing the wine’s natural precision to shine.

Food & Serving
This wine pairs beautifully with dishes that match its refinement and structure, such as lobster, scallops, roast chicken with cream sauce, turbot, or aged Comté and other nutty alpine cheeses. Serve it slightly cool, around 12 to 14°C, and consider decanting for 20 to 30 minutes when young to let the reductive notes settle and the aromatics open fully.

Producer
Domaine Etienne Sauzet is one of Puligny-Montrachet’s most respected estates, long associated with some of the appellation’s most refined and mineral Chardonnay wines. Founded in the early 20th century and now widely recognized as a reference point for classic Puligny style, the domaine has built its reputation on precision, purity, and terroir expression. Its wines are regularly praised for their elegance and longevity, particularly from top Premier Cru and Grand Cru vineyards.
