Description
Domaine Etienne Sauzet Puligny-Montrachet Les Referts 1er Cru 2016 is a refined expression of one of Burgundy’s most admired white-wine terroirs. Sourced from the prized Les Referts vineyard in Puligny-Montrachet, it combines precision, depth, and the elegant style for which Etienne Sauzet is so highly regarded.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a luminous golden hue that hints at both ripeness and concentration. The nose is layered and inviting, with aromas of mature lemon, white flowers, and subtle toasted nuts, unfolding into a more complex bouquet with time in the glass.
On the palate, the wine is deep and nuanced, balancing peach, apple, and citrus fruit with a lifted mineral edge and vibrant acidity. Its structure suggests excellent aging potential, and while already expressive, it should gain further complexity and texture with time in bottle.
Production
Les Referts lies in Puligny-Montrachet, one of Burgundy’s most distinguished communes for Chardonnay, where limestone-rich soils and a cool continental climate help shape wines of tension, precision, and finesse. The grapes are typically harvested with close attention to ripeness, and vinification is carried out with the aim of preserving purity, site character, and aromatic detail.
Food & Serving
This wine pairs beautifully with dishes that reflect its elegance and complexity, such as lobster, seared scallops, roasted chicken, veal in a light cream sauce, or fine mushroom risotto. Serve it slightly chilled, ideally around 10-12°C, and consider brief decanting if opened young to help it reveal its full aromatic range.
Producer
Domaine Etienne Sauzet is one of Puligny-Montrachet’s benchmark estates, long associated with some of the region’s most coveted Chardonnay wines. Founded in the early 20th century and now internationally respected, the domaine has built its reputation on precision, terroir expression, and consistently high quality across its vineyard holdings.
