Description
Domaine Etienne Sauzet Puligny-Montrachet La Garenne 1er Cru 2022 is a refined expression of one of Puligny’s cooler, higher-altitude premier cru sites, where brightness, minerality, and aromatic precision come together beautifully. Crafted from Chardonnay and shaped by Sauzet’s hallmark purity, this is a wine that captures both the elegance of the site and the pedigree of one of Burgundy’s most respected domaines.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a poised, luminous character with a clean, inviting profile. The nose opens with pear, green apple, and citrus, lifted by hints of mint and a subtle touch of nutmeg that adds delicacy and intrigue.
The palate is medium to full-bodied, with a satiny texture and a striking mineral drive that reflects the stony soils of La Garenne. Flavours of white peach, lime, and a faintly creamy nuance are kept taut by vivid acidity, giving the wine a linear, energetic feel. The finish is long, chalky, and elegant, with citrus and spice lingering over a distinctly mineral backdrop. This 2022 has excellent ageing potential and should gain extra depth and complexity over time.
Production
La Garenne is a high-lying premier cru site in Puligny-Montrachet, prized for its cooler exposition and stone-rich soils that naturally favour freshness, tension, and finesse. The 2022 vintage was vinified with the aim of preserving the vineyard’s precise fruit character and mineral edge, resulting in a wine that feels both concentrated and beautifully lifted.
Food & Serving
This wine is a superb match for refined dishes such as lobster, scallops, Dover sole, roast chicken with herbs, or creamy risotto with mushrooms. Serve it at around 10–12°C, and consider brief decanting if you want to encourage the aromatics to open up, especially when enjoyed young.
Producer
Domaine Etienne Sauzet is one of Puligny-Montrachet’s benchmark producers, with a long-standing reputation for producing Chardonnay of exceptional clarity, balance, and site expression. The domaine has become synonymous with Burgundian precision and elegance, and its wines are widely admired for their consistency, ageing potential, and strong sense of place.
