Description
Domaine Etienne Sauzet Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Champ Canet 2016 is a refined expression of one of Burgundy’s most celebrated white-wine appellations. Made from Chardonnay grown in the distinguished Champ Canet vineyard, it combines Puligny-Montrachet’s hallmark minerality and precision with the depth and graceful complexity of a strong vintage. This is a serious, cellar-worthy white Burgundy with both immediate appeal and excellent ageing potential.
Tasting Notes
The wine presents a bright golden colour, with a poised and expressive nose of fresh lemon, white flowers and ripe orchard fruit, complemented by subtle toasted and lightly nutty nuances. On the palate, peach, pear and grapefruit unfold alongside a fine mineral character and lively acidity. Its texture is elegant yet concentrated, with impressive depth, balance and a long, saline finish.
Already complex and rewarding, the 2016 vintage has the structure to develop further in bottle. With careful cellaring, it should gain additional honeyed, nutty and savoury complexity while retaining the freshness and precision that define fine Puligny-Montrachet.
Production
Produced from Chardonnay in the Champ Canet 1er Cru vineyard of Puligny-Montrachet, this wine reflects the limestone-rich soils and favourable exposures that give the Côte de Beaune its distinctive combination of freshness, minerality and finesse. The fruit is carefully harvested and vinified with a focus on preserving purity and site expression, before maturation in oak adds texture and subtle roasted complexity without overshadowing the wine’s natural precision.
Food & Serving
Serve lightly chilled at approximately 11–13°C, allowing the wine to open gradually in the glass. It is an excellent match for roasted or grilled fish, lobster, scallops, shellfish, poultry in a light cream sauce and dishes featuring mushrooms. Decanting is not essential, but a brief decant of 20–30 minutes can help reveal the wine’s aromatic depth, particularly when enjoyed young.
