Description
Domaine Etienne Sauzet’s 2023 Beaune Montrevenots 1er Cru offers a notably more expressive nose than the estate’s Epenottes, with darker fruit, greater depth, and a refined sense of integration. A classic Burgundy with subtle tobacco nuances and a graceful structure, it reflects both the elegance of Beaune and the precision for which Sauzet is known.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, this 2023 Premier Cru shows a poised, polished profile with a medium-bodied palate and excellent definition. Aromas lean toward darker berry fruit, supported by integrated stem character and a little extra depth, while the palate brings in hints of tobacco wrapped around the black fruit core. The finish is gently gripping and finely balanced, suggesting a wine that should develop beautifully over the next several years.
Production
Beaune Montrevenots is a Premier Cru vineyard in the Côte de Beaune, where the cooler Burgundy climate and limestone-rich soils help preserve freshness and shape. The vines benefit from a terroir that can deliver both ripe fruit and structure, and in this vintage the stem influence is well integrated rather than overt. Vinification appears aimed at finesse and clarity, allowing the dark fruit, depth, and subtle herbal-spice elements to come through without excess weight.
Food & Serving
This wine will pair well with roast chicken, duck breast, mushroom dishes, veal, and other elegant meat-based plates. Serve slightly cool, around 15–17°C, to keep the aromatics bright and the structure supple. Decanting is optional but can be helpful if opened young, especially to give the darker fruit and secondary notes a little more room to open up.
Producer
Domaine Etienne Sauzet is one of Burgundy’s most respected names, especially celebrated for its precise and expressive wines. Based in Puligny-Montrachet, the domaine has built a strong reputation for clarity, balance, and terroir-driven winemaking across its holdings in the region. Over time, Sauzet has become closely associated with some of the Côte de Beaune’s most refined white wines, while also showing impressive skill with select red cuvées like this Beaune Premier Cru.
