Domaine Dugat-Py’s Pommard Les Vaumuriens Hauts Très Vieilles Vignes 2022 is a striking example of modern Burgundy at its most refined: generous, silky, and deeply expressive, yet unmistakably rooted in one of Pommard’s most characterful sites. Sourced from very old vines in the southern part of the appellation, close to Volnay, it shows the more supple and seductive side of Pommard while retaining the depth and seriousness collectors expect from Dugat-Py.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, this is a poised and vibrant red Burgundy with a glossy, concentrated core and beautifully lifted aromatics. The nose leans toward ripe red berries, dark cherry, floral nuances, and subtle spice, with a refined earthy undertone that reflects both the site and the old vines. On the palate, the wine is remarkably smooth and elegant, with a textured, finely layered feel rather than the rustic power Pommard is sometimes known for. The very old vines bring impressive depth and concentration, while the 2022 vintage contributes clarity and energy. This is a wine with excellent aging potential, but it already shows a graceful, approachable balance in its youth.

Production
Les Vaumuriens Hauts lies at the southern edge of Pommard, bordering Volnay, where the terroir tends to produce wines that are fuller and more seductive than more classic Pommard bottlings. The parcel’s very old vines, estimated between 70 and 100 years of age, provide naturally low yields and remarkable concentration. Under Loïc Dugat-Py, the vineyard expression is crafted in a more precise, elegant style, emphasizing finesse, purity, and balance through careful vinification.

Food & Serving
This wine pairs beautifully with classic Burgundy dishes such as duck breast, roast quail, veal, game birds, or mushroom-based preparations. It also works well with truffled dishes, grilled lamb, or aged semi-soft cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for 30–60 minutes if drinking young to allow the aromatics and texture to fully open.
