Domaine du Pegau’s Châteauneuf-du-Pape Réserve 2016 is one of the estate’s signature wines and a benchmark for classic Rhône power with real finesse. This impressive 3-liter format captures the depth and personality that have earned Pégaü a devoted following, with Grenache at the core and a traditional blend of 13 grape varieties adding complexity and structure.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a deep, dark ruby color that hints at its concentration. The nose is intensely layered, opening with blackberry, dark plum, black tea, black pepper, and wild herbs such as rosemary and thyme, before evolving with air into notes of leather and sandalwood. The palate is full-bodied and richly textured, yet balanced by impressive freshness and detail. Dark fruit, clove, white pepper, and savory herbal tones drive the finish, which is long and persistent. This is a wine with excellent cellaring potential, improving over the next 5 years and capable of rewarding patience for 20 years or more.

Production
Réserve is made from a traditional Châteauneuf-du-Pape field blend of 13 grape varieties, with Grenache making up about 80% of the wine. The grapes are handled with a minimalist approach: whole clusters are pressed, fermentation takes place in cement tanks with native yeasts, and the wine is matured for two years in used oak barrels, allowing terroir and varietal character to remain at the forefront.

Food & Serving
This is a superb match for roasted lamb, game, beef stew, braised short ribs, and Provençal dishes featuring herbs de Provence. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decant for at least 1–2 hours to allow the wine to fully раскры its aromatic complexity and supple texture.
