Domaine du Pegau’s Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Réservée 2019 is one of the appellation’s benchmark wines, admired for its depth, generosity, and remarkable value. Built around old-vine Grenache and completed by the classic southern Rhône varieties, it captures the power and aromatic complexity that have made Pégau a cult favorite among Rhône lovers.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a deep, youthful ruby-garnet color with impressive concentration. The nose is layered and expressive, opening with blackberry, dark plum, black tea, black pepper, and fresh herbs such as rosemary and thyme; with air, notes of leather and sandalwood emerge, adding extra dimension. The palate is full-bodied and intense, yet finely balanced, with dark fruit, clove, white pepper, and savory herbal tones carried by a dense but polished structure. It has the concentration to age beautifully, drinking well now with time in a decanter, but it will continue to improve over the next 5 years and can develop for 20–25 years in a good cellar.

Production
Cuvée Réservée is made from a traditional blend of 13 grape varieties, with roughly 80% Grenache at its core. The grapes are handled with great care: whole clusters are pressed, fermentation takes place in cement tanks with indigenous yeasts, and the wine is matured for around two years in used oak barrels, allowing the fruit and terroir to remain front and center.

Food & Serving
This is a superb match for rich dishes such as roasted lamb, beef short ribs, duck, game, herb-crusted meats, and slow-cooked stews, as well as mature hard cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decant for 1–2 hours if drinking young to help the aromatics unfold and soften the tannins.
