Domaine du Pegau’s Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Réservée 2018 is a benchmark Rhône red, loved for its depth, character, and exceptional value in a top-tier appellation. Dominated by Grenache and built from a classic 13-grape blend, it carries the unmistakable Pégau signature: power, structure, and a distinctly old-school, cellar-worthy style.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, this is a deeply colored, intensely expressive red with layers of dark fruit and savoury complexity. The nose opens with blackberry, dark plum, black tea, black pepper, fresh rosemary, and thyme, and with a little air, notes of leather and sandalwood begin to emerge. The palate is rich and full-bodied, but never heavy, combining ripe dark fruit with clove, white pepper, and the same herbal Mediterranean lift found on the nose. It has the concentration and backbone to age beautifully, and while it is already impressive now, it will continue to improve over the next 5 years and can easily hold at a very high level for 20–25 years.

Production
Cuvée Réservée comes from old-vine Châteauneuf-du-Pape vineyards and is made from a traditional blend of 13 grape varieties, with around 80% Grenache at its core. The grapes are pressed as whole clusters, fermentation takes place in cement vats without added yeast, and the wine is then matured for two years in used oak barrels, preserving purity of fruit while adding depth and texture.

Food & Serving
This is a natural partner for hearty dishes such as lamb, slow-roasted beef, game, duck confit, and richly flavoured stews, as well as roasted vegetables and Mediterranean herb-driven cuisine. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decant for 1–2 hours if opening young, as this helps the aromas unfurl and softens the wine’s powerful structure.
