Description
Domaine du Clos de Tart ‘Clos de Tart’ Grand Cru Monopole 2002 is a benchmark Burgundy from one of the region’s most legendary sites. Sourced from the singular 7.53-hectare monopole in Morey-Saint-Denis, it combines the rarity of a fully owned Grand Cru vineyard with the depth and refinement that have made Clos de Tart a reference point for serious Pinot Noir collectors.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it typically shows a deep ruby hue with impressive concentration. The nose unfolds with layered aromas of ripe cherry, forest floor, exotic spice, violets, and a distinct mineral edge, all hallmark traits of great Côte de Nuits Pinot Noir.
On the palate, it is powerful yet poised, with silky tannins, remarkable texture, and a long, resonant finish. The wine’s structure and complexity suggest excellent aging potential, and while it can already be compelling, it is built to evolve gracefully over decades, revealing ever more nuance with time.
Production
Clos de Tart comes from a historic monopole vineyard in Morey-Saint-Denis, a site that has been unified since 1141 and is regarded as one of the finest terroirs in Burgundy. The Grand Cru vineyard’s small size, unique ownership, and exceptional exposure contribute to the wine’s remarkable sense of place and consistency. Made from Pinot Noir, the wine reflects the precision and depth expected from an elite Côte de Nuits Grand Cru.
Food & Serving
This wine is an exceptional match for refined dishes such as roast duck, pigeon, braised game birds, beef tenderloin, truffled mushroom dishes, or aged hard cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C. Decanting is recommended, especially for younger bottles, to allow the aromatics and structure to open fully.
Producer
Domaine du Clos de Tart is one of Burgundy’s most iconic names, known for producing wine exclusively from this historic Grand Cru monopole. Its heritage and continuity give it a special place in the region, and the domaine has earned widespread recognition among collectors and critics for its deeply expressive, age-worthy Pinot Noir. The estate’s rare single-vineyard identity and long history make it a true standard-bearer for great Burgundy.
