Description

Domaine du Clos de Tart ‘Clos de Tart’ Grand Cru Monopole 1989 is one of Burgundy’s most iconic wines, drawn from a single, historic Grand Cru vineyard in Morey-Saint-Denis. As a true monopole, it offers a rare, unmistakable expression of Pinot Noir with the depth, finesse, and pedigree collectors seek.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, this 1989 Clos de Tart shows the classic depth of mature Grand Cru Burgundy, with a dark ruby to garnet core and the kind of shimmering complexity that only time can deliver. The bouquet is layered and seductive, unfolding with aromas of ripe cherry, forest floor, exotic spice, violets, and a refined mineral edge. On the palate, it balances power and elegance beautifully, with silky tannins, concentrated fruit, and a long, nuanced finish that seems to keep evolving. While already highly expressive, the wine’s structure and concentration suggest it has the capacity for extended aging, continuing to gain complexity over time.

Production
Clos de Tart comes from a 7.53-hectare monopole vineyard in Morey-Saint-Denis, a rarity in Burgundy where a single owner controls the entire Grand Cru site. The vineyard has been unified since 1141 and sits on one of the Côte de Nuits’ most celebrated terroirs, where Pinot Noir benefits from a privileged combination of soils, exposure, and meticulous vineyard stewardship. Vinification is aimed at preserving the vineyard’s natural depth, precision, and aromatic complexity.

Food & Serving
Best served with dishes that match its finesse and depth, such as roast duck, game birds, beef fillet, mushroom dishes, or truffled cuisine. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decant gently if needed, especially if the wine is showing youthful structure; for a mature vintage like 1989, a careful short decant may help release its full aromatic range.

Producer
Domaine du Clos de Tart is one of Burgundy’s most revered names, known for producing wines from the legendary Clos de Tart vineyard in Morey-Saint-Denis. The domaine’s significance lies in its stewardship of one of the region’s most historic and exclusive monopoles, with a reputation built on exceptional terroir expression, longevity, and world-class Pinot Noir. Over time, Clos de Tart has become a benchmark for Grand Cru Burgundy and a reference point for collectors worldwide.
