Domaine des Pierrettes Origine 2018 is the flagship red from Gilles Tamagnan’s estate in Touraine, crafted from 100% Côt, the Loire’s local name for Malbec. It combines ripe dark fruit with a distinctive spicy character and the kind of structure that only comes from patient oak aging, making it a standout expression of the Loire Valley.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, this wine shows a deep, youthful ruby to dark garnet color. The nose opens with mature black fruit aromas—think blackberry, plum, and black cherry—layered with warm spice, subtle earthy notes, and a hint of toasted oak. On the palate, Origine 2018 is full-flavored and structured, with concentrated dark fruit, fine tannins, and a persistent savory spice. The extended oak aging adds depth and grip rather than overpowering the wine, giving it a polished, complex finish. It has the balance and backbone to develop further over the next few years.

Production
The wine comes from Touraine in the Loire Valley, a region known for its rolling green landscapes and varied vineyard sites. Domaine des Pierrettes farms around 25 hectares, focusing on locally well-adapted varieties, and this cuvée is made entirely from Côt. The grapes are vinified to preserve ripe fruit and varietal character, then matured in oak for more than two years to build structure, complexity, and a more layered profile.

Food & Serving
This is an excellent match for roasted lamb, grilled steak, duck breast, game birds, or hearty dishes with mushrooms and root vegetables. It also works beautifully with aged cheeses and rich, slow-cooked casseroles. Serve at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for 30–60 minutes if the wine is still showing some youthful firmness.
