Description
Domaine de la Romanée-Conti’s La Tâche is one of Burgundy’s most celebrated Grand Cru wines, and the 2009 vintage shows the house at its most seductive and complete. Crafted from Pinot Noir on one of Vosne-Romanée’s most legendary sites, it combines monumental concentration with the refinement and purity that have made DRC a benchmark for the region for generations.
Tasting Notes
The 2009 La Tâche pours with a deep, luminous ruby core and impressive intensity in the glass. The bouquet is immediately captivating, with rose petal, Asian spice, plums, dark chocolate, espresso, grilled meat, rock salt and rich earthy tones unfolding in layers.
On the palate, it is full-bodied and deeply structured, yet remarkably polished, with fine-grained chalky tannins, succulent acidity and a dense, multidimensional core. The finish is long, fragrant and persistent, with the kind of balance and presence that suggests a very long drinking window ahead; this is a wine built for extended aging and will continue to evolve for many years.
Production
La Tâche comes from a revered Grand Cru vineyard in Vosne-Romanée, where the combination of Burgundian limestone soils, careful old-vine selection and exceptionally low yields gives the wine its depth and precision. Domaine de la Romanée-Conti farms its vineyards organically, with biodynamic principles increasingly influencing the work in the vines, and harvest is carried out entirely by hand with strict sorting at the winery.
Vinification follows a traditional, minimal-intervention approach: the fruit is allowed to begin fermentation naturally, with no cold soak, before aging in oak barrels, including a significant proportion of new wood. The élevage lasts around 16 to 18 months, with the cellar work designed to preserve the vineyard’s character rather than mask it.
Food & Serving
This is a wine that deserves refined dishes with depth and nuance, such as roast squab, duck breast, veal tenderloin, truffled mushroom risotto, or game birds with a rich sauce. It also pairs beautifully with aged cheeses and simply prepared dishes that let the wine remain the focus. Serve at around 16-18°C and decant gently if needed, ideally for 1-2 hours, especially if opened in its youth.
Producer
Domaine de la Romanée-Conti is one of the most iconic estates in Burgundy, based in Vosne-Romanée and known for owning only Grand Cru vineyards. Its history reaches back to the 13th century, and over time the domaine has become synonymous with precision, rarity and extraordinary quality. Under the leadership of Aubert de Villaine and a remarkably consistent cellar team, the estate has played a defining role in modern Burgundy and is widely regarded as one of the greatest wine producers in the world.
