Description
Domaine de La Pousse d'Or’s Volnay En Caillerets 2024 is a refined Burgundy Premier Cru that captures the graceful, aromatic character for which this celebrated climat is known. Crafted from Pinot Noir and produced biodynamically, it combines vibrant red-fruit expression, mineral precision and silky texture—offering immediate charm while promising excellent cellaring potential.
Tasting Notes
Bright ruby in colour, the wine opens with an elegant bouquet of red cherries, raspberries and violets, complemented by delicate floral nuances, subtle spice and a distinctly chalky mineral note. On the palate, it is precise and beautifully balanced, with succulent red fruit, lively acidity and velvety tannins. The mineral tension carries through to a long, refined finish, giving the wine both finesse and depth.
This Volnay Premier Cru is approachable in its youth for its fragrance and supple texture, but its structure and concentration should allow it to develop greater complexity with age. Stored in suitable cellar conditions, it should reward patience over the medium to long term, with the potential to evolve toward more savoury, earthy and nuanced aromas.
Production
The grapes come from the prestigious En Caillerets Premier Cru in Volnay, on the Côte de Beaune, where limestone-rich soils help give the wines their characteristic floral lift, elegance and mineral tension. Domaine de La Pousse d'Or farms its vineyards according to biodynamic principles, with the fruit harvested by hand and rigorously selected. Fermentation is conducted slowly and with careful temperature control to preserve the expression of the terroir, after which the wine matures for an extended period on its fine lees in oak barrels. The aim is to develop complexity, texture and depth without overshadowing the delicacy of the Pinot Noir.
Food & Serving
Serve at approximately 14–16°C. The wine is a natural partner for refined dishes such as roast veal, guinea fowl, duck, quail or poultry with mushrooms. Its elegant tannins and mineral freshness also complement sweetbreads, truffle dishes and preparations featuring wild mushrooms, while its aromatic depth makes it especially well suited to classic French cuisine. Decanting is not essential when the wine is young, but a gentle decant of around 30–60 minutes can help open its aromas; older bottles should be handled carefully and decanted only if necessary to remove sediment.
Producer
Domaine de La Pousse d'Or is regarded as one of the leading estates of the Côte de Beaune. Based in Burgundy, the domaine farms approximately 17 hectares, including holdings in seven Grand Cru and eleven Premier Cru vineyards across prestigious appellations such as Volnay, Chambolle-Musigny, Pommard, Corton and Puligny-Montrachet. Its fully biodynamic approach is central to both vineyard work and winemaking, with a focus on expressing each site as clearly and precisely as possible. The estate’s meticulous selection, extended élevage and restrained use of oak have helped establish its reputation for elegant, terroir-driven Burgundy.
