Description

Domaine de La Pousse d'Or’s Volnay Clos des 60 Ouvrées Monopole is a rare and highly refined expression of one of Burgundy’s most elegant appellations. Held entirely by the domaine, this monopole showcases the poise, mineral precision and silken texture associated with Volnay’s finest Premier Cru terroirs, while reflecting the estate’s deep commitment to biodynamic viticulture and minimal-intervention winemaking.

Tasting Notes
The 2023 vintage opens with a luminous ruby colour and an immediately expressive bouquet of red cherries, wild raspberries, violets and rose petals. Subtle layers of spice and wet limestone gradually emerge, followed by more complex notes of black tea, forest floor and finely integrated French oak. On the palate, the wine is silky, layered and remarkably poised, combining elegance with impressive concentration. Fine-grained tannins provide structure without heaviness, while fresh acidity brings energy and length. Its exceptionally long, pure finish is marked by a distinct chalky mineral character. Although already graceful, this Volnay has the balance and depth to develop beautifully over the next 10–20 years, gaining further savoury and earthy complexity with bottle age.

Production
Clos des 60 Ouvrées is a biodynamically farmed monopole of Domaine de La Pousse d'Or, situated in the limestone-rich terroir of Volnay and known for its refined mineral character. The domaine places strong emphasis on biodiversity, low yields and meticulous manual work in the vineyard. Following careful hand selection, the grapes undergo a slow, controlled fermentation with gentle extraction designed to preserve Pinot Noir’s natural elegance. The wine is then aged for an extended period on its fine lees in French oak barrels. Intervention is kept to a minimum, and the wine is bottled without fining or filtration when conditions allow, preserving the purity of the terroir.

Food & Serving
Serve at approximately 14–16°C after allowing the bottle to come gradually to serving temperature. The wine is a natural partner for roast duck, game birds, veal, pork tenderloin and dishes featuring wild mushrooms, truffles or earthy root vegetables. It can be enjoyed immediately for its finesse and freshness, but decanting for 30–60 minutes is recommended in its youth to reveal its layered aromatics; mature bottles are best poured carefully to avoid disturbing any sediment.

Producer
Domaine de La Pousse d'Or is one of Burgundy’s most respected estates, with approximately 17 hectares and an unusually high proportion of Premier Cru and Grand Cru vineyards. In Volnay, the domaine owns three monopoles, including Clos des 60 Ouvrées, giving it an especially distinctive position within the appellation. Its biodynamic approach, focus on biodiversity and low yields, and exceptionally gentle cellar work have established the domaine as a benchmark for pure, terroir-driven Burgundy.
