Description

Domaine de La Pousse d'Or’s Chambolle-Musigny Les Charmes 2023 captures the appellation’s celebrated combination of perfume, delicacy and finely detailed structure. From a tiny 0.188-hectare parcel planted in 1982, this prestigious Premier Cru lies directly beside Les Amoureuses and offers a particularly pure expression of Chambolle-Musigny. Its elegance is already captivating, while its balance and mineral freshness promise graceful development in bottle.

Tasting Notes
The wine displays a bright, refined ruby colour. Its expressive perfume opens with wild strawberries, fresh cherries and violets, followed by subtle sweet spices and a gentle hint of toasted cocoa. On the palate, it is silky and finely textured, with lively acidity and a distinctive chalky minerality that brings clarity and length. Exceptionally fine-grained tannins provide quiet structure without compromising the wine’s sensual character, while the long finish combines ripe red fruit, floral nuances and impressive freshness. This is a poised and precise Premier Cru with the balance to evolve beautifully over time. It can be enjoyed with pleasure in its youth for its fragrance and finesse, but should gain further complexity with several years of bottle age and continue developing well over the medium to long term.

Production
The Les Charmes parcel sits at approximately 280 metres above sea level and is farmed biodynamically, with careful selection in the vineyard to preserve the site’s refined character. The grapes are harvested by hand, followed by a seven-day cold maceration. Fermentation is temperature-controlled, with twice-daily pigeage to extract colour, aroma and tannin with precision. The total cuvaison lasts around 21 days, after which the wine matures for 15 months on its fine lees in French oak barrels, approximately 30% of which are new. This measured élevage adds complexity while allowing the elegant Chambolle-Musigny fruit to remain at the forefront.

Food & Serving
Serve at approximately 15–17°C, allowing the wine to warm gently in the glass. Its supple texture and refined tannins make it an excellent partner for roast duck, squab, game birds, veal, tender cuts of pork and dishes featuring mushrooms or truffles. A short decant of around 30–60 minutes can help reveal the wine’s floral perfume and mineral detail, although older bottles are best handled gently and may require little or no decanting.
