Description
Domaine de la Mordorée’s Tavel Rosé La Dame Rousse 2022 is a benchmark example of why Tavel is celebrated as one of France’s finest rosé appellations. Richly expressive yet beautifully poised, it combines serious depth with the freshness and charm that make premium rosé so compelling.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a vivid, насыщенный rosé hue with plenty of presence. The nose is immediately inviting, led by ripe red berries, especially strawberry and cherry, with a fragrant, fruity intensity that feels both generous and refined.
On the palate, this is a full-flavoured rosé with impressive concentration without ever feeling heavy. Ripe red berry fruit drives the wine, followed by a subtle spicy edge on the finish that adds length and complexity. Built with enough structure to age gracefully for a few years, it should continue to gain nuance over time.
Production
The grapes are sourced from 9 hectares of some of the best sites in Tavel, in the southern Rhône near Châteauneuf-du-Pape and Gigondas. The blend is drawn from older vines of around 40 years of age, with Grenache as the backbone, supported by Cinsault, Syrah, Mourvèdre, Clairette and Bourboulenc. On arrival at the winery, the grapes are destemmed and the juice remains in contact with the skins for 36 to 48 hours to extract colour and build flavour intensity.
Food & Serving
This is an excellent match for grilled poultry, Mediterranean dishes, Provençal cuisine, salmon, charcuterie, and flavourful summer salads. Serve chilled, ideally around 10–12°C, to preserve its freshness while allowing the wine’s depth to show. Decanting is not necessary, but a short time in the glass will help release its full aromatic expression.
Producer
Domaine de la Mordorée is one of the most respected estates in Tavel and the southern Rhône, often praised by critics including Robert Parker for the quality of its wines. The domaine has built a strong reputation for producing some of the region’s most expressive and authentic bottles, with a particular focus on site-driven character and finesse. Its success has helped reinforce Tavel’s standing as a world-class appellation for serious rosé.
