Domaine de la Mordorée Lirac Cuvée de la Reine des Bois 2007

Domaine de la Mordorée’s Cuvée de la Reine des Bois is the estate’s flagship expression and a benchmark for what Lirac can achieve at its best. Made from old vines with very low yields and crafted according to biodynamic principles, it offers a deeply concentrated, terroir-driven style. The 2007 vintage comes from one of the great years in the Southern Rhône, adding extra richness, balance, and age-worthy depth.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, this is a dense, dark, and inviting red with plenty of concentration. The nose is intensely layered, opening with black cherry and blackberry before unfolding into licorice, garrigue, lavender, and warm Mediterranean spice. With time in bottle, the bouquet gains further complexity through hints of leather, tobacco, and forest floor. The palate is full-bodied and powerful, yet remarkably refined, with a silky texture, ripe tannins, and a fresh, vibrant spine. Dark fruit is woven together with savory herbs, mineral nuances, and classic Rhône spice, creating impressive length and definition. This is a wine with excellent aging potential, and while it is already expressive, it can continue to evolve beautifully for years.

Production
Lirac sits on the western bank of the Rhône, opposite Châteauneuf-du-Pape, and shares many of the same geological features, including stony soils, clay, and limestone. Domaine de la Mordorée works with old-vine Grenache, Syrah/Shiraz, and Mourvèdre, keeping yields low to preserve concentration and purity. Biodynamic farming and careful vinification help capture the full depth of the site, resulting in a wine that is both powerful and distinctly terroir-led.

Food & Serving
This is an excellent match for grilled lamb, beef tenderloin, duck breast, game, or slow-cooked Provençal dishes with herbs and olives. It also pairs well with mature hard cheeses and richer mushroom-based dishes. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decant for at least one hour, longer if the bottle has been stored for many years.
