La Plume du Peintre is Domaine de la Mordorée’s rarest and most prestigious cuvée, produced only in the greatest vintages and in tiny quantities. Made from 100% old-vine Grenache from the revered La Crau terroir, the 2005 vintage stands as one of the estate’s most celebrated interpretations and a benchmark for great southern Rhône wine.

Tasting Notes
Deep, intense, and beautifully layered in the glass, the wine shows aromas of blackberry, blackcurrant, cherry compote, liquorice, graphite, black spice, and garrigue. With age, it gains extra complexity through notes of leather, truffle, and warm Mediterranean herbs. On the palate, it is monumental yet finely composed, with remarkable concentration, silky texture, and an outstanding balance of power, freshness, and mineral drive. The finish is long and persistent, suggesting both exceptional quality and immense ageing potential. This is a wine that can continue to evolve gracefully for many years in a well-kept cellar.

Production
La Plume du Peintre comes from the famous La Crau sector of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, where old Grenache vines grow in galets roulés and red clay soils that help retain heat and encourage depth, ripeness, and structure. The grapes are selected only in exceptional years, and production is extremely limited, reflecting the cuvée’s prestige and rarity.

Food & Serving
Best enjoyed with refined, richly flavored dishes such as slow-roasted lamb, game, beef short rib, or Provençal cuisine with herbs and olives. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decant several hours in advance if the wine is still youthful, or gently decant older bottles to preserve their nuance.
