Le Haut de la Butte is a standout Bourgueil from one of the Loire Valley’s most respected Cabernet Franc specialists, Domaine de la Butte. Sourced from the estate’s highest parcel, this wine combines the freshness, precision, and dark-fruited character that have made Jacky Blot’s wines so admired.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a deep, concentrated color that hints at its ripe fruit profile and hillside origins. The nose opens with a slightly wild, earthy edge that quickly gives way to blackcurrant, blackberry, elderberry, and blueberry, layered with violet, liquorice, and subtle savory notes in the background. On the palate, it is juicy and focused, with Cabernet Franc’s signature mix of dark berries and plum, supported by freshness and fine structure. The tannins are likely to be present but polished, giving the wine both immediate appeal and the potential to develop beautifully over the next several years.

Production
The wine comes from Le Haut de la Butte, a six-hectare single vineyard in AOC Bourgueil, planted at around 100 meters above sea level on limestone soils with clay and flint. These conditions encourage ripeness while preserving the lift and finesse that define the site. The grapes are harvested with care, and vinification is followed by partial ageing in new barriques to add depth without overwhelming the wine’s natural freshness.

Food & Serving
This Cabernet Franc pairs well with roasted poultry, duck breast, grilled lamb, mushroom dishes, and other savory fare with earthy elements. Serve it at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for 30–60 minutes if opened young, as this will help soften its more youthful, expressive character.
