Description

Domaine de Chevalier Pessac-Léognan Grand Cru Rouge 2017 is a refined and highly sought-after Bordeaux from one of the Left Bank’s most respected estates. Built on a classic Cabernet Sauvignon-led blend with Merlot, Petit Verdot, and Cabernet Franc, it combines depth, precision, and the signature elegance of Pessac-Léognan.

Tasting Notes
The wine typically shows a deep ruby color with excellent clarity and concentration. Aromas often unfold with blackcurrant, blackberry, cedar, graphite, tobacco leaf, and subtle floral and spice notes, giving it both power and finesse on the nose. On the palate, it is structured yet polished, with ripe dark fruit, fine-grained tannins, fresh acidity, and a long mineral-tinged finish. The 2017 vintage is known for balance and approachability, but this is a wine with the backbone to develop beautifully over time; it should gain further complexity with cellaring.

Production
Domaine de Chevalier sits in the Graves area of Bordeaux, in the Pessac-Léognan appellation, where gravel-rich soils and a temperate maritime climate help Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot achieve both ripeness and freshness. The estate is known for meticulous vineyard care and careful harvesting, usually with an emphasis on selecting fully ripe fruit parcel by parcel. Vinification is traditionally precise and quality-focused, with fermentation aimed at preserving purity of fruit and structure. The wine is then aged in French oak barrels, which adds seasoning, texture, and complexity without overwhelming the wine’s natural finesse.

Food & Serving
This wine pairs beautifully with roast lamb, beef tenderloin, duck breast, game, or dishes featuring mushrooms and truffle. It also works well with aged hard cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decanting for 1–2 hours is recommended if opening young, to allow the aromas and tannins to fully open.

Producer
Domaine de Chevalier is one of the leading estates in Pessac-Léognan and has long been admired for producing wines of elegance, ageworthiness, and terroir expression. The estate has a strong reputation both in Bordeaux and internationally, and it is recognized as one of the benchmark producers of the appellation. Over the years, its consistent quality has made it a favorite among collectors seeking classic Left Bank Bordeaux.
