Description
Domaine de Beaurenard Châteauneuf-du-Pape Rouge Bio 2022 is a refined expression of one of the Rhône Valley’s most illustrious appellations. While Châteauneuf-du-Pape is often associated with sheer power, this certified organic red shows how strength and elegance can coexist in perfect balance. Crafted from classic southern Rhône varieties, it delivers depth and complexity without ever feeling heavy or overdone.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, the 2022 vintage shows a deep, vibrant ruby to garnet hue, hinting at both concentration and freshness. The nose opens with dark berry fruits—blackberry, black cherry and ripe plum—woven together with earthy undertones, dried herbs, hints of tobacco leaf and a subtle touch of well-integrated oak rather than overt barrique. There are no jammy or confected notes here; instead, the aromatics feel precise, layered and distinctly Mediterranean.
On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and structured, yet remarkably poised. Juicy black and red fruits are framed by a fine, lively acidity that keeps everything lifted, while silky but present tannins provide a refined backbone. Notes of garrigue (thyme, rosemary, lavender), cracked pepper and warm spices build through the mid-palate, leading into a long, savory, mineral-tinged finish that lingers with complex spice and a touch of smoke. Enjoyable in its youth for its generous fruit and vibrancy, this Châteauneuf-du-Pape has the structure to evolve gracefully over the next 8–12 years, gaining further nuance and secondary complexity.
Production
Sourced from estate vineyards in the southern Rhône’s famed Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation, Domaine de Beaurenard’s 2022 Rouge Bio benefits from the region’s sun-drenched Mediterranean climate, cooling mistral winds and its mosaic of soils—galets roulés (rounded stones), sand, clay and limestone—that contribute both power and finesse. The blend of Grenache Noir, Syrah, Mourvèdre and Cinsault is organically grown, with careful work in the vineyards to control yields and ensure optimal ripeness. Grapes are harvested by hand to allow strict selection of healthy, perfectly ripe bunches. In the cellar, traditional vinification methods are combined with modern precision: gentle extraction preserves fruit purity and tannin finesse, while maturation—partly in large oak and/or neutral vessels—adds texture and complexity without dominating the wine’s character.
Food & Serving
This Châteauneuf-du-Pape Rouge Bio 2022 is a natural partner for rich, flavorful dishes such as roasted lamb with herbs, slow-braised beef, venison, duck breast or cassoulet. It also pairs beautifully with Provençal-inspired cuisine—think grilled vegetables, ratatouille, wild mushroom dishes and aged hard cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C (60–64°F) to highlight its aromatic complexity and balance. Decanting for 1–2 hours before serving is recommended, especially in its first years, to allow the wine to open fully and reveal its layers of fruit, spice and garrigue.
