Description

Domaine de Beaurenard’s Châteauneuf-du-Pape Blanc 2019 is a rare and captivating expression of the appellation, where white wines account for only a small proportion of plantings. Made from a traditional blend of Bourboulenc, Clairette, Grenache Blanc, Picpoul and Roussanne, it combines Rhône richness with remarkable freshness, complexity and length. Although Châteauneuf-du-Pape is best known for its powerful reds, its white wines have a long-standing reputation for elegance and ageing ability.

Tasting Notes
Bright golden in appearance, the wine offers an expressive and layered nose of ripe yellow apple, citrus peel, melon and a subtle cucumber freshness. With air, notes of ripe banana, vanilla, fresh almonds and Darjeeling tea add further depth and nuance. The palate is broad, powerful and impressively complex, balancing generous fruit with refreshing acidity and a refined, gently tannic texture. Its 14% alcohol is well integrated, while the finish is remarkably long and persistent. This is still a youthful wine and benefits from several hours of aeration before serving. It can be enjoyed now, but should develop further complexity with bottle age over the coming years.

Production
The blend brings together several classic white Rhône varieties, each contributing to the wine’s character: Roussanne for depth and aromatic richness, Grenache Blanc for body, and Clairette, Bourboulenc and Picpoul for freshness and structure. Châteauneuf-du-Pape’s warm Mediterranean climate and stony soils provide ripeness and concentration, while the varied grape composition helps preserve balance. The wine is crafted to express both the richness of the vintage and the distinctive identity of the appellation.

Food & Serving
A fine match for roasted or grilled fish, lobster, scallops and other shellfish, it also pairs beautifully with poultry in a creamy sauce, veal, fresh goat’s cheese and richly flavoured vegetarian dishes. Serve lightly chilled at around 10–12°C. Decanting is recommended, particularly while the wine is young; give it two to three hours in a carafe to allow its full aromatic complexity to emerge.

Producer
Domaine de Beaurenard is a historic family estate in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, associated with the Coulon family and the southern Rhône’s tradition of estate-bottled wines. The domaine is recognised for its detailed, terroir-focused approach and for producing both classic red and white Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Its white cuvée is particularly distinctive in the region, offering an uncommon combination of power, texture, freshness and long-term ageing potential.
