Description
Domaine Danjean-Berthoux Givry La Plante Blanc 2023 is an elegant, mineral-driven white Burgundy from the Côte Chalonnaise, expressing the freshness and finesse of the Givry appellation. Made from Chardonnay and matured for 10 months in oak, including 20% new barrels, it combines bright citrus character with subtle, well-integrated wood notes. It comes from a family domaine whose winemaking history in the area dates back to 1958.
Tasting Notes
Bright and refined in appearance, this Givry Blanc shows a fresh, delicate profile. The nose reveals lively citrus aromas alongside subtle hints of oak and a gentle mineral character. On the palate, it is elegant and focused, with crisp acidity, fine texture and a refreshing finish marked by citrus and discreetly toasted notes. Enjoyable now for its freshness, it should also develop additional roundness and complexity over the next few years when properly stored.
Production
The wine comes from vineyards around Jambles and Givry in the heart of the Côte Chalonnaise, where the terroir brings together freshness, minerality and the characteristic precision of Burgundy’s Chardonnay. Domaine Danjean-Berthoux farms its vines using sustainable cultivation methods, with a focus on healthy, high-quality grapes and expressing the identity of the site. Following fermentation, the wine is matured for 10 months in oak barrels, 20% of which are new, adding subtle depth without overwhelming the fruit and mineral character.
Food & Serving
A natural match for seafood and fish, this Givry Blanc pairs particularly well with oysters, prawns, scallops, grilled sea bass and delicate white-fleshed fish. It also works beautifully with shellfish in light cream sauces, fresh goat cheese and poultry. Serve chilled at approximately 10–12°C. Decanting is not essential, but giving the wine a short period of air in the glass or a brief decant can help reveal its citrus, mineral and oak nuances.
Producer
Domaine Danjean-Berthoux is based in Jambles, in the heart of the Côte Chalonnaise, and presents wines from Givry and Mercurey. Georges Berthoux took over the family business from his father, Charles Berthoux, in 1958 and gradually built the domaine’s vineyards over almost four decades by acquiring parcels in Jambles, Givry and Mercurey. His son-in-law Pascal Danjean joined the domaine in 1993 and took full control in 2002; today, Pascal and his son Charles-Antoine represent the third and fourth generations. The family continues to work with a strong commitment to sustainable viticulture and terroir-driven wines.
