Description

Domaine Danjean-Berthoux’s Givry Champ Garembey 2023 is an elegant red Burgundy from the Côte Chalonnaise, combining generous fruit with the refined structure typical of Givry. Fine tannins and careful oak ageing make it an especially versatile choice for lovers of polished, food-friendly Pinot Noir. The domaine’s roots stretch back to 1958, with several generations having built its vineyards across Jambles, Givry and Mercurey.

Tasting Notes
The wine shows a bright ruby colour and offers expressive aromas of ripe, full-bodied red fruit, complemented by subtle spicy and gently toasted nuances from its time in oak. On the palate, it is supple and elegant, with concentrated fruit, a balanced freshness and fine-grained tannins that provide structure without overpowering the wine. Enjoyable in its youth for its vibrant fruit and smooth texture, the 2023 should develop added complexity over the next few years. Properly stored, it may continue to gain nuance over approximately five to eight years, depending on cellar conditions and personal preference.

Production
The wine comes from Givry in the heart of Burgundy’s Côte Chalonnaise, an area known for producing refined, characterful reds. Domaine Danjean-Berthoux farms its vineyards using sustainable cultivation methods, aiming to preserve the expression of the local terroir. Following harvest, the wine is matured for nine to ten months in oak barrels, around 25% of which are new, adding discreet depth and spice while allowing the fruit and site character to remain at the forefront.

Food & Serving
A natural partner for poultry, particularly roast chicken, guinea fowl or duck, it also works well with veal, pork, mushroom dishes and gently seasoned Burgundian cuisine. Serve lightly cool at around 14–16°C. A short decant of 20–30 minutes can help open the wine’s fruit and oak nuances, although older bottles are best handled gently and served directly after settling.

Producer
Based in Jambles, Domaine Danjean-Berthoux has a long family history in the Côte Chalonnaise. Georges Berthoux took over the family business from his father, Charles Berthoux, in 1958 and gradually acquired vineyard parcels in Jambles, Givry and Mercurey over nearly four decades. His son-in-law Pascal Danjean joined the domaine in 1993 and assumed full responsibility in 2002; today, Pascal and his son Charles-Antoine represent the third and fourth generations. Their focus on sustainable viticulture and terroir-driven wines has helped establish the domaine as a respected producer of Givry and Mercurey.
