Sourced from carefully tended parcels within the storied walled vineyard of Clos de Vougeot, this Grand Cru reflects the limestone-rich, well-drained soils and varied exposures that have made the site legendary since Cistercian monks first cultivated it in the Middle Ages. Domaine Confuron-Cotetidot works their vines with low yields and great respect for the environment, harvesting by hand to ensure only perfectly ripe Pinot Noir clusters reach the winery. Fermentations are traditionally conducted with a high proportion of whole clusters, emphasizing aromatic complexity, structure and terroir transparency, with indigenous yeasts and minimal intervention. The wine is then aged in French oak barrels—judiciously using new wood—allowing the Grand Cru character to take center stage while gaining texture and complexity before bottling without aggressive filtration.
