Description

Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé Musigny Grand Cru 2012 is one of the most iconic Pinot Noirs in the world, and the crown jewel of Chambolle-Musigny. With its rare combination of finesse, depth, and aristocratic elegance, it stands as a benchmark for great Burgundy and a historic reference point for the Musigny appellation.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows the translucent brilliance typical of top Burgundy, with a deeply expressive, refined ruby hue. The nose is wonderfully layered, unfolding with wild raspberry, cherry, violet, and rose petal, followed by Oriental spice, forest floor, and a subtle mineral edge. On the palate, the wine is both powerful and weightless, with a silken texture, remarkable concentration, and precise, lively acidity. Fine-grained tannins frame layers of red and dark berries, floral notes, and chalky minerality, leading to a very long, harmonious finish. This is a wine with exceptional aging potential and will continue to gain complexity over decades.

Production
Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé is the largest owner of Musigny, one of Burgundy’s most revered Grand Cru vineyards. The site’s exceptional terroir combines limestone-rich soils, ideal exposure, and the cool climate of Chambolle-Musigny to produce Pinot Noir of extraordinary purity and balance. The domaine’s approach is famously meticulous and terroir-driven, with vinification designed to preserve precision, perfume, and texture.

Food & Serving
This is a wine for refined dishes such as roast duck, pigeon, quail, veal, or game birds, as well as mushroom-based cuisine and truffle-accented preparations. Serve at around 16-18°C, and consider decanting carefully if the wine is still very young, though older bottles are often best opened with minimal aeration to preserve their nuance.

Producer
Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé is one of the great historic names of Burgundy, with a legacy deeply tied to Chambolle-Musigny and the legendary Musigny vineyard. The domaine is widely respected for producing wines of exceptional purity, longevity, and class, and its Grand Cru holdings have made it a standard-bearer for the region. Its Musigny in particular is regarded by many collectors and critics as one of the finest expressions of Pinot Noir ever made.
