Description

Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé’s Musigny Blanc Grand Cru 2022 is one of Burgundy’s rarest and most sought‑after white wines, crafted from the hallowed slopes of Musigny itself. This is a white Burgundy of immense finesse and quiet power, combining crystalline purity with the depth you expect from true grand cru terroir. For collectors and serious Chardonnay lovers alike, it offers a glimpse into one of the most singular white wines in the world. As the only Musigny Blanc Grand Cru bottling in existence, its unique status is unquestionable. The 2022 release stands out for its satin-like texture, lifted aromatics and impeccable balance between ripeness and tension. Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé has been a benchmark in Chambolle-Musigny for generations, and this cuvée reflects both the domaine’s history and the long tradition of fine white wine on these famed slopes.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, the 2022 Musigny Blanc shows a pale to medium lemon-gold hue, youthful and bright, hinting at its energy and precision. The nose opens with pure aromas of fresh pear and citrus zest, followed by layers of white blossom, wet stone and a delicate, musky apricot note. Subtle hints of almond, cool chalk and a touch of spice add complexity as it breathes. On the palate, this is medium-bodied and wonderfully refined, with a satin-smooth texture carried by vibrant, mouth-watering acidity. Flavours of ripe orchard fruits, lemon oil and stone fruit are interwoven with saline minerality and a gentle creaminess from élevage, never feeling heavy. The finish is long, precise and quietly persistent, suggesting significant potential for development. While already seductive in its youth, this 2022 Musigny Blanc Grand Cru will reward patience, evolving beautifully over 10–15 years and likely longer in a good cellar.

Production
Musigny Blanc hails from the upper reaches of the famed Musigny Grand Cru in Chambolle-Musigny, where thin, limestone-rich soils and excellent drainage produce wines of remarkable tension and finesse. The cool, breezy exposition helps preserve acidity and aromatic freshness, even in warmer years like 2022. Grapes are typically harvested by hand in small crates, with rigorous sorting to retain only pristine fruit from these precious parcels. Vinification is classic, focused on precision rather than excess: gentle pressing, followed by fermentation in oak (a judicious proportion new) to build texture without masking terroir. The wine is then aged on its fine lees, with careful bâtonnage and élevage tailored to highlight Musigny’s innate elegance, minerality and depth.

Food & Serving
Musigny Blanc Grand Cru deserves refined, nuanced cuisine that matches its elegance and complexity. Think delicate seafood dishes such as turbot, sole or scallops, fine shellfish, or poached lobster with beurre blanc. It also pairs beautifully with roast poultry, veal in light cream sauces, and refined vegetable dishes featuring morels, white asparagus or truffle. Serve slightly chilled at around 11–13°C (52–55°F) to allow the aromatics to fully express themselves. Young bottles will benefit from 45–60 minutes in a decanter, while older vintages should be handled more gently, with a brief, careful decant just to remove any sediment.

Producer
Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé is one of Burgundy’s most revered estates, with roots in Chambolle-Musigny dating back to the 15th century. The domaine’s holdings include a commanding share of the Musigny Grand Cru, making it a defining voice of this legendary terroir. Over generations, de Vogüé has become synonymous with uncompromising quality, meticulous vineyard work and a style that marries depth with grace. While best known for its great reds, the tiny production of Musigny Blanc has achieved almost mythical status, underscoring the estate’s importance not only in Chambolle-Musigny but in the broader landscape of fine Burgundy.
