Description

Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé is one of Burgundy’s most historic and revered estates, and this 2002 Chambolle-Musigny reflects the house’s unmistakably graceful style. Made from Pinot Noir in the heart of Côte de Nuits, it combines precision, perfume, and finesse with the pedigree of one of the region’s oldest winemaking families.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, the wine shows a luminous ruby-garnet color with the kind of elegance that Burgundy lovers prize. The nose is deeply layered, offering red cherry, candied raspberry, rose petals, spice, and a touch of well-judged oak, all unfolding with remarkable complexity. On the palate, it is refined and beautifully textured, with vivid red and dark berry fruit framed by silky, exquisite tannins. Floral notes, subtle earth, and spice add detail and length, giving the wine a poised, feminine character rather than power for its own sake. While the 2002 vintage is now approaching maturity, it should continue to drink gracefully, though its best years are likely around its peak rather than long-term extended cellaring.

Production
The grapes come from some of Chambolle-Musigny’s most prized parcels in Burgundy, where limestone-rich soils and a cool continental climate help produce wines of perfume and delicacy. Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé farms its vineyards with great care, and the estate has moved toward a more natural philosophy after earlier decades of more aggressive vineyard practices. Harvest is carried out with an emphasis on selecting healthy, ripe Pinot Noir fruit, followed by careful vinification aimed at preserving purity, freshness, and site expression. The result is a wine that emphasizes finesse, aromatic complexity, and the transparent character of great Chambolle-Musigny.

Food & Serving
This wine is best served slightly below room temperature, ideally around 16–18°C. It pairs beautifully with dishes that respect its elegance, such as roast duck, quail, veal, pigeon, mushroom risotto, or truffled poultry; decanting is recommended if the bottle is showing any youthful reduction, but for an older bottle like this, a gentle decant just before serving is usually enough.

Producer
Founded in 1450, Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé is one of Burgundy’s oldest family-owned wine estates, with more than 20 generations of the same family involved in its history. The domaine’s reputation is built on exceptional holdings, especially in Le Musigny, where it owns a major share of the appellation, along with prized parcels in Bonnes-Mares and Chambolle-Musigny Premier Cru. Under the modern leadership of Claire and Marie de Vogüé, supported by a strong technical and commercial team, the estate has become a benchmark for refined, terroir-driven Burgundy. Its wines are widely regarded as among the finest in the region, admired for their elegance, depth, and unmistakable sense of place.
