Description
Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé is one of Burgundy’s most storied names, and this 2009 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru shows exactly why. Sourced from young-vine Musigny fruit, it combines the perfume and finesse of Chambolle with the depth and structure of a more serious, age-worthy wine.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it offers a bright, vivid ruby color that hints at its freshness and precision. The nose unfolds with red berries, flowers, and spice, followed by darker tones of plum and black cherry as it opens. Mineral notes give the bouquet lift and definition.
The palate is vibrant and focused, with an energetic core of ripe red fruit wrapped around a structured, elegant frame. There is real tension here, with the darker fruit and firm finish suggesting both refinement and staying power. This is a 2009 that can age gracefully for several more years, gaining complexity and nuance over time.
Production
Produced in Chambolle-Musigny in Burgundy, this wine benefits from the appellation’s classic limestone-rich terroir, which lends finesse, freshness, and a distinct mineral edge. The 1er Cru is made from young vines in Musigny, one of the estate’s prized holdings, and reflects careful vineyard work shaped by the domaine’s increasingly natural philosophy. Harvesting and vinification are carried out with a focus on preserving purity, site expression, and the delicate character of Pinot Noir.
Food & Serving
This wine pairs beautifully with roast duck, game birds, grilled quail, mushroom dishes, and fine cuts of veal or lamb. It is best served slightly cool, around 15–16°C, and will benefit from decanting for about 30–60 minutes if opened young, allowing the aromatic layers and structure to fully раскрыться.
Producer
Founded in 1450 and still owned by the de Vogüé family, Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé is the oldest winemaking family in Burgundy, with more than 20 generations linked to the estate. Based in Chambolle-Musigny, the domaine is especially renowned for its holdings in Le Musigny, Bonnes-Mares, and Premier Cru Chambolle-Musigny. Under the modern stewardship of Claire and Marie de Vogüé, alongside a strong technical team, the estate has become one of the benchmark producers of the Côte de Nuits.
