Domaine Claire Clavel’s Syrius is a distinctive Côtes-du-Rhône-Villages Saint-Gervais red, combining the generous character of Grenache with the spicy depth of Syrah. Sourced from vineyards around Saint-Gervais, it reflects the appellation’s elevated, schist-rich terroir and the Clavel family’s commitment to responsible, nature-conscious viticulture.

Tasting Notes
Deep ruby-red in appearance, this 2022 offers inviting aromas of ripe red berries, black cherry and red plum, complemented by subtle peppery and herbal notes. The palate is generous and full-bodied, with juicy fruit, supple tannins and a lively seam of spice. Grenache brings warmth and ripe fruit, while Syrah contributes structure and savoury complexity. Enjoyable now for its fruit-forward character, it should develop additional softness and nuance over the next four to six years when properly stored.

Production
The wine is a blend of 70% Grenache and 30% Syrah from vineyards in the Saint-Gervais commune. The vines are planted at approximately 200 metres above sea level on a plateau of red sandstone and schist, with the schist contributing particular expression and intensity. Grapes are predominantly harvested by hand, and the estate works according to Terra Vitis-certified sustainable principles, aiming to preserve harmony with the surrounding environment throughout the vineyard and cellar.

Food & Serving
Serve at 16–18°C alongside grilled or roasted lamb, beef, duck, sausages, ratatouille or hearty Mediterranean dishes featuring herbs and spices. It also pairs well with mature hard cheeses. The wine can be enjoyed straight from the bottle, but decanting for 30–45 minutes will help open its ripe fruit and reveal its savoury, spicy character.

Located in the Cèze Valley north of Nîmes in the Pays du Gard, Domaine Claire Clavel is led by winemaker Claire Clavel with support from her father, Denis. The family and their team manage around 80 hectares across roughly 100 parcels in five villages of the southern Rhône, with a focus on Côtes du Rhône and Côtes du Rhône-Villages Saint-Gervais. Since 2010, the domaine has been Terra Vitis certified, reflecting its long-standing commitment to sustainable and environmentally responsible farming.
