Description
Domaine Chevigny-Rousseau’s 2020 Vosne-Romanée Les Petits Monts is a refined expression of one of Burgundy’s most distinguished appellations. Produced by a family domaine established in 1947, it combines Vosne-Romanée’s famed perfume and elegance with impressive depth, silky texture and youthful power. The domaine’s vineyards form a mosaic across some of the Côte de Nuits’ most prized sites, including parcels situated in the same broader terroir as vineyards associated with Domaine de la Romanée-Conti.
Tasting Notes
The wine displays a deep ruby-red colour with dark purple highlights. Its complex bouquet opens with elegant red and dark fruit, complemented by fragrant spice, subtle earthiness and the lifted perfume typical of Vosne-Romanée.
On the palate, it is full-bodied yet beautifully composed, with concentrated fruit, refined freshness and velvety tannins. Powerful in its youth, the wine already offers a remarkably smooth and polished texture, while its depth and structure suggest excellent ageing potential. It should develop added aromatic complexity over the next 8–15 years, with careful cellaring allowing the fruit, spice and savoury nuances to become increasingly integrated.
Production
The Les Petits Monts vineyard benefits from the limestone-rich, well-drained soils and favourable hillside exposures of Vosne-Romanée, a terroir renowned for producing wines of both finesse and intensity. Made from Pinot Noir, the grapes are harvested by hand according to traditional Burgundian practice. The wine is matured for approximately 12–18 months, with around 30% of the élevage taking place in new oak barrels, adding gentle spice and structure while allowing the character of the vineyard to remain at the forefront.
Food & Serving
Serve at approximately 16–18°C after allowing the bottle to come gently to temperature. It is a natural partner for roast poultry, duck, veal, mushroom dishes, and classic Burgundian preparations such as coq au vin or beef bourguignon. The 2020 vintage can be enjoyed now with a careful decant of around 30–60 minutes, although older bottles may benefit from more delicate handling and a shorter decant to preserve their developing aromas.
