Description
Domaine Chevigny-Rousseau’s Chambolle-Musigny Les Combottes 2020 is an elegant yet intensely expressive red Burgundy, combining the appellation’s renowned finesse with impressive depth and concentration. Made by a family domaine established in 1947, it reflects the exceptional mosaic of vineyards surrounding Vosne-Romanée and Chambolle-Musigny, including parcels situated on terroirs comparable to those of some of Burgundy’s most celebrated producers.
Tasting Notes
The wine has a clear, vibrant ruby-red colour. Its aromatic profile is beautifully perfumed, with notes of violet, ripe cherry, wild strawberry and raspberry, complemented by the subtle earthy nuances typical of fine Pinot Noir.
On the palate, it is full-bodied yet silky and refined, with a fine-grained texture, layered fruit and a striking balance between intensity and finesse. The finish is persistent and graceful. While already approachable, the 2020 vintage has the structure and concentration to develop greater complexity over the next 8–12 years under good cellaring conditions.
Production
The vineyards are part of the distinguished Burgundy landscape, where limestone- and clay-rich soils help produce wines known for their perfume, precision and silky texture. The exact harvesting method and vinification details are not specified, but the wine is matured for an average of 18 months, with approximately 80% of the élevage taking place in new oak barrels. This generous maturation contributes depth and polish while preserving the wine’s characterful fruit and terroir expression.
Food & Serving
Serve at approximately 15–16°C after allowing the wine to come gently to temperature. It pairs beautifully with roast duck, game birds, beef fillet, veal, mushroom dishes and refined preparations featuring truffle or earthy root vegetables. Decanting is not essential for a younger bottle, but 30–60 minutes in a decanter can help reveal its floral aromas and silky palate; older bottles are best handled carefully and decanted only if necessary to remove sediment.
Producer
Domaine Chevigny-Rousseau is a family-run estate based in Vosne-Romanée and has been active since 1947. Its vineyards are spread like a mosaic across some of Burgundy’s most valuable parcels, including land sharing the same exceptional geological character as vineyards associated with Domaine de la Romanée-Conti. The domaine is recognised for producing wines that offer a pure expression of their individual terroirs, combining Burgundian elegance with remarkable intensity.
