Description
Domaine Chanzy’s Vosne-Romanée La Croix Blanche 2023 is a striking Burgundy Pinot Noir from one of the appellation’s most coveted villages, just south of Vosne-Romanée. Named for the white stone cross that marks the junction of the surrounding parcels, this wine captures both the elegance and the depth that make Vosne-Romanée so sought after.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a notably deep colour for a Burgundy Pinot Noir. The nose opens with juicy red berries, layered with subtle spice and gentle oak nuances from barrel ageing. On the palate, it is structured yet refined, offering ripe fruit, freshness, and a polished tannic frame that promises graceful development over time.
With a little patience in the cellar, the wine should gain even more complexity and sophistication, evolving toward the silky, harmonious style that Vosne-Romanée is famous for. Its balance of fruit, structure, and finesse suggests strong ageing potential.
Production
The grapes come from La Croix Blanche, a site located just south of Vosne-Romanée, where the terroir contributes to the wine’s concentration and elegant Burgundian character. The fruit underwent 10 days of maceration before alcoholic fermentation, which was carried out in stainless steel tanks at low temperatures to preserve colour and aromatic purity while avoiding harsh tannins. The wine then aged for 10 months in oak barrels, 30% of which were new, followed by a further five months in stainless steel before bottling.
Food & Serving
This Pinot Noir pairs beautifully with roast duck, game birds, mushroom dishes, veal, or poultry with creamy sauces. Serve slightly cool, ideally around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for 30–45 minutes if drinking young to allow the aromas to open and the structure to soften.
