Description
Puligny-Montrachet is one of Burgundy’s most admired white wine appellations, and Domaine Chanzy’s Les Reuchaux shows exactly why. Made from Chardonnay, this 2023 release combines classic creamy oak influence with fresh floral and mineral nuance, giving it both immediate appeal and the structure to age gracefully. It sits comfortably among the benchmark whites of Puligny-Montrachet, alongside Meursault and Chassagne-Montrachet.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, this wine is likely to show a pale golden hue with bright clarity, reflecting its youthful energy and careful élevage. The nose opens with fresh blossom, citrus, and a subtle mineral edge, layered over gentle oak tones that bring cream, spice, and a hint of toast.
On the palate, it is classically Burgundian: rounded, textured, and mouthfilling, yet lifted by freshness and a finely defined mineral backbone. The oak is present but well integrated, adding richness without overwhelming the Chardonnay fruit. It can be enjoyed now for its balance and charm, but it also has the depth and concentration to evolve beautifully over the coming years.
Production
Les Reuchaux comes from Puligny-Montrachet in Burgundy, a terroir prized for its chalky soils and ability to produce precise, elegant Chardonnay with strong mineral expression. The wine undergoes both alcoholic and malolactic fermentation in small barrels, with 16% new oak used to add subtle complexity and texture. It then matures for 16 months in barrel, followed by a month in stainless steel before bottling, helping to preserve freshness while building depth and harmony.
Food & Serving
This wine is an excellent match for refined dishes such as roast chicken, grilled lobster, scallops, turbot, or creamy mushroom risotto. It also works beautifully with aged Comté, mild goat’s cheese, or poultry in a light cream sauce. Serve slightly chilled, ideally around 10–12°C, and decanting is not necessary, though a short airing can help if opening it young.
