Description
Domaine Chanzy’s Mercurey Le Bois Cassien Monopole Rouge 2023 is a bright, graceful Pinot Noir from Burgundy that delivers plenty of charm without heaviness. Sourced from a monopole site and crafted with a light touch, it offers the kind of juicy, easy-drinking style that has made Mercurey one of the most appealing names in the Côte Chalonnaise.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a vibrant ruby-red color with a fresh, inviting clarity. The nose is lifted and expressive, with red cherry, strawberry and cranberry at the forefront, followed by subtle hints of cola, forest floor and a whisper of vanilla.
The palate is supple and finely textured, combining ripe red fruit with a pleasant dryness and well-integrated acidity. There is enough body to give the wine shape, but the overall impression remains airy, lively and elegant. It should drink beautifully now, while still having the potential to develop additional complexity over the next few years.
Production
The Pinot Noir grapes are harvested and sorted by hand, ensuring only healthy fruit enters the cellar. After vinification, winemaker Max Blondelle ages the wine for 10 months in 450-liter barrels, then lets it rest for a further 5 months in stainless steel tank to preserve freshness and refine the final blend of fruit and structure.
Food & Serving
This is a versatile Burgundy that works especially well with roast chicken, duck breast, mushroom dishes, charcuterie and lightly spiced poultry. Serve slightly cool, around 14–16°C, and decanting is not essential, though a short aeration can help the aromas open if the wine is served young.
