Description
Domaine Chanzy Mercurey Le Bois Cassien Monopole Blanc 2021 is a refined Chardonnay from one of the Côte Chalonnaise’s most compelling appellations, offering Burgundy character at a particularly attractive price point. Made from a monopole vineyard in Mercurey, it combines limestone-driven freshness with impressive depth and a polished, cellar-crafted style.
Tasting Notes
The wine shows a light golden color with green reflections, hinting at its youthful energy and freshness. On the nose, it opens with citrus, hazelnut, cinnamon, pepper, sea buckthorn, and acacia blossom, giving a layered and slightly spicy aromatic profile.
On the palate, the fruit is clean and expressive, with the wine’s mineral backbone gradually coming into focus on the finish. The balance of fruit, texture, and chalky precision gives it real charm, and while it is already very appealing now, it should also hold well for a few years in bottle.
Production
Sourced from Mercurey in Bourgogne, the wine comes from soils rich in limestone and marl, which help shape its mineral profile and elegant structure. Winemaker Max Blondelle ages the wine first in French oak barrels and then in stainless steel tanks, a combination that adds subtle complexity while preserving freshness and clarity of fruit.
Food & Serving
This Chardonnay pairs beautifully with roast chicken, creamy poultry dishes, grilled fish, scallops, lobster, and mushroom risotto. Serve it at around 10–12°C, and decanting is not necessary, though a little time in the glass will help the aromatics open up further.
Producer
Domaine Chanzy was founded in 1974 by Daniel Chanzy in Bouzeron with the ambition of elevating wines from the Côte Chalonnaise to rival the prestige of the Côte d’Or. Today, Chanzy is regarded as one of the leading producers in the region, with vineyards across Bouzeron, Rully, Givry, and Mercurey. Since the 2013 acquisition by a group of Burgundy wine lovers, the estate has expanded to 163 hectares and continues to stand out for its sustainable viticulture and strong craftsmanship under cellar master Max Blondelle.
