Domaine Chandon de Briailles’ Pernand-Vergelesses Les Vergelesses 2023 is an elegant Burgundy red that combines bright red-fruit character with the cool, mineral profile of the Côte de Beaune. Made from Pinot Noir grown on historic, limestone-rich parcels and farmed biodynamically, it is a refined expression of one of Pernand-Vergelesses’ most respected sites.

Tasting Notes
The wine has a clear ruby colour. Its nose opens with vibrant cherry and raspberry, complemented by delicate floral notes and a subtle touch of spice. On the palate, it is polished and fresh, with lively acidity, fine-grained tannins and a graceful, mineral finish that brings definition and length. Already approachable in its youth, this 2023 should gain added complexity with a few years in bottle. It is likely to develop beautifully over the medium term, with careful cellaring allowing the fruit, floral character and mineral nuances to integrate further.

Production
The Les Vergelesses vineyard lies in Pernand-Vergelesses on the western side of the Côte de Beaune, where limestone-rich soils contribute freshness and a distinctive mineral character. Domaine Chandon de Briailles farms its historic parcels according to biodynamic principles. The grapes are fermented with natural, indigenous yeasts and a proportion of whole clusters, before the wine is matured in French oak barrels. A restrained use of new oak keeps the focus on the vineyard’s character and the wine’s natural elegance.

Food & Serving
Serve at approximately 14–16°C. Its freshness and fine tannins make it a versatile partner for roast chicken, duck, veal, pork tenderloin and dishes featuring mushrooms or earthy vegetables. It can be enjoyed without decanting, although a gentle decant of 30–60 minutes may help reveal its floral aromas and mineral detail, particularly when served in its youth.
