Domaine Chandon de Briailles’ 2022 Pernand-Vergelesses Île des Vergelesses Blanc is a refined expression of one of the Côte de Beaune’s most respected Premier Cru vineyards. Made by a historic family domaine established in 1834, it combines Chardonnay’s natural poise with the mineral character and finely textured elegance associated with this distinctive hillside site.

Tasting Notes
Bright straw-gold in appearance, the wine opens with an expressive yet precise bouquet of citrus zest, white flowers, orchard fruit and subtle hazelnut, with a gently earthy, mineral nuance emerging as it develops in the glass. On the palate, it is composed and energetic, balancing ripe pear and lemon flavours with fine acidity, a silky texture and a long, saline finish. The 2022 vintage offers generosity and concentration while retaining the domaine’s characteristic freshness and finesse. It is enjoyable in its youth after some aeration, but should develop additional complexity over approximately 8–12 years, revealing deeper notes of toasted almond, brioche and layered minerality.

Production
The wine comes from Île des Vergelesses in Pernand-Vergelesses, a renowned Côte de Beaune climat known for its limestone-rich soils and cool, well-exposed slopes. Domaine Chandon de Briailles has farmed its vineyards biodynamically since 2005, working with minimal intervention and a strong respect for the expression of place. Following vertical pressing, the wine is fermented in large 10-hectolitre oak vessels and, when required, demi-muids, before maturing in the same vessels for 20 to 30 months. The result is oak that supports rather than dominates the wine’s fruit, freshness and terroir-driven character.

Food & Serving
Serve at around 11–13°C, ideally in a generous Burgundy glass. This versatile white pairs beautifully with roast chicken, veal, turbot, grilled or roasted scallops, lobster and creamy mushroom dishes; its mineral freshness also makes it a natural match for soft-ripened cheeses. Decanting is not essential when young, but 30–60 minutes in a carafe can help reveal its aromatic depth and texture, particularly after opening a mature bottle.

Based in the village of Pernand-Vergelesses, the domaine owns approximately 13.7 hectares of vineyards and is led by Claude and François de Nicolay. Since adopting fully biodynamic farming in 2005, the estate has become especially respected for precise, terroir-focused wines that express their origins with finesse. Its bottles are regularly found on the lists of acclaimed restaurants and in specialist wine shops around the world.
