Domaine Chandon de Briailles, Corton Bressandes 2022

Domaine Chandon de Briailles’ Corton Bressandes 2022 is a distinguished red Burgundy from one of the Côte de Beaune’s most celebrated Grand Cru sites. Crafted from Pinot Noir, it combines dark-fruited depth and mineral precision with the elegance and finesse that have defined this historic family domaine since 1834.

Tasting Notes
The wine displays a deep ruby hue with youthful intensity. Its nose opens with aromas of black cherry, blackberry and plum, complemented by fragrant violet, subtle earthiness and a refined mineral character. On the palate, it is powerful yet beautifully balanced, with concentrated dark fruit, lively acidity and firm but polished tannins. A long, harmonious finish reveals both the wine’s structure and its distinctly Corton character. This is a serious, age-worthy Burgundy that will gain further complexity with time in bottle. It can be enjoyed from around 2028, while careful cellaring should allow it to develop gracefully for 10–15 years or more, depending on storage conditions.

Production
The grapes come from Corton Bressandes in the Côte de Beaune, a Grand Cru climat known for producing Pinot Noir with both power and mineral definition. Domaine Chandon de Briailles farms its vineyards biodynamically, a practice adopted across the estate in 2005. Vinification follows a low-intervention approach, using whole clusters and conical oak vats without pumping or added sulphur during the process. The wine is then matured for 15–18 months in 228-litre Burgundy barrels, approximately 85% used oak and 15% new oak, allowing the fruit and terroir to remain at the forefront.

Food & Serving
Serve at 15–17°C, allowing the wine to warm gently in the glass. It is an excellent partner for roast duck, game birds, venison, beef fillet, mushroom dishes and richly flavoured poultry preparations. With its youthful structure, decanting for approximately 1–2 hours is recommended, although older bottles may benefit from more careful handling and only a short time in the decanter.

Domaine Chandon de Briailles has been in the de Nicolay family since 1834 and is based in the Côte de Beaune, where the estate cultivates 13.7 hectares of vineyards. Under the direction of Claude and François de Nicolay, the domaine has been fully biodynamic since 2005, expressing a deep commitment to soil health, tradition and authentic terroir. Its minimal-intervention wines are widely regarded among the finest in Burgundy and are found on the lists of acclaimed restaurants and specialist wine merchants.
