Domaine Chandon de Briailles, Aloxe Corton Les Valozières 2023

Domaine Chandon de Briailles’ Aloxe-Corton Les Valozières 2023 is a refined red Burgundy that combines vibrant red and black fruit with floral lift and a distinctly chalky sense of place. Made biodynamically in the northern Côte de Beaune and fermented with indigenous yeasts, it offers a precise, terroir-driven expression of Aloxe-Corton with elegant tannins and impressive freshness.

Tasting Notes
The wine shows a bright ruby colour in the glass. Its bouquet opens with aromas of red and black berries, complemented by delicate floral notes and subtle earthy nuances that add depth without overshadowing the fruit. On the palate, it is fresh, focused and finely textured, with polished tannins and a mineral, chalk-like tension on the finish. The balance between fruit, structure and acidity gives the wine excellent potential to develop greater savoury complexity with several years of bottle age, while remaining approachable in its youth with a little aeration.

Production
Domaine Chandon de Briailles farms its vineyards biodynamically on limestone- and clay-rich soils, allowing the character of the site to come through clearly. The grapes are harvested with care and undergo spontaneous fermentation using native yeasts. Maturation takes place in oak barrels, including a proportion of used barrels, chosen to support the wine’s structure while preserving its freshness, fruit purity and sense of terroir.

Food & Serving
A natural partner for veal, poultry and duck—particularly gently rosé-braised preparations—this Burgundy also works beautifully with dishes featuring mushrooms, such as wild mushroom risotto or roasted mushroom and herb combinations. Serve slightly cool, around 14–16°C. Decanting is not essential, but 30–60 minutes of gentle aeration can help reveal the wine’s floral and earthy nuances, especially when enjoyed young.

Based in Savigny-lès-Beaune on the northern side of the Côte de Beaune, Domaine Chandon de Briailles is one of Burgundy’s respected estates, with a long history of producing expressive wines from the region’s limestone-rich vineyards. The domaine is particularly recognised for its biodynamic approach and for allowing individual vineyard sites to guide the style of the wines. Today, the wine is made by François de Nicolay, whose careful, low-intervention approach emphasises freshness, precision and authentic terroir character.
