Description

Domaine Arnaud Baillot Gevrey-Chambertin 2023 is a refined expression of Pinot Noir from one of Burgundy’s most revered villages. Crafted in small quantities, it captures the power and structure Gevrey is known for, while keeping the poise and precision that define top Côte de Nuits reds. This young vintage offers an approachable, vibrant style today, with the promise of greater complexity over time.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, this Gevrey-Chambertin shows a bright, medium ruby color with youthful violet reflections, signaling its energy and freshness. The nose opens with layers of wild red and black berries—think cherry, raspberry, and blackberry—interwoven with notes of crushed rose petals, subtle spice, and a touch of forest floor and graphite that hint at its Côte de Nuits origins. On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied yet structured, with silky but firm tannins and a lively, well-integrated acidity. Flavors of red cherry, cranberry, and ripe strawberry are supported by darker undertones of plum, along with nuances of pepper, clove, and a delicate toastiness from oak aging. The finish is long and precise, with mineral-driven tension that invites another sip. While already enjoyable in its youth with a short decant, this 2023 vintage has the backbone to evolve gracefully over the next 7–10 years, gaining more savory, earthy complexity.

Production
Sourced from carefully selected parcels around the village of Gevrey-Chambertin in the northern Côte de Nuits, this wine reflects a classic Burgundian terroir of limestone and clay soils, which lend both finesse and structure to Pinot Noir. Yields are kept low to concentrate flavor, and grapes are harvested by hand to ensure optimal selection in the vineyard. In the cellar, traditional Burgundian methods prevail: gentle destemming, cold maceration, and a controlled fermentation in small vats to extract color and fine tannins without excess harshness. The wine is then matured in French oak barrels—often with a judicious proportion of new oak—to add texture and subtle spice while preserving the purity of fruit and the identity of Gevrey-Chambertin.

Food & Serving
This Gevrey-Chambertin 2023 is an excellent partner for classic Burgundian dishes such as coq au vin, duck breast with a cherry or red-wine reduction, or roast chicken with herbs and mushrooms. It also pairs beautifully with game birds, veal, charcuterie, and semi-soft cheeses like Reblochon or Tomme, as well as aged Comté. Serve at 15–17°C (59–62°F) to highlight its aromatic complexity and freshness. Young bottles will benefit from 30–60 minutes in a decanter to soften the tannins and allow the floral and spicy notes to fully emerge.

Producer
Domaine Arnaud Baillot is a relatively young but increasingly talked-about name in Burgundy, based in Beaune and focused on crafting precise, terroir-driven wines from some of the region’s most esteemed villages. Working closely with trusted growers and overseeing vinifications with meticulous attention, Arnaud Baillot produces a range of appellations that showcase both the elegance and the underlying power of Burgundy’s great Pinot Noir and Chardonnay sites. In the competitive landscape of Côte d’Or producers, the domaine has gained recognition among sommeliers and collectors for offering wines that are both authentic and finely made, often delivering premier-quality character from village-level crus like Gevrey-Chambertin.
