Description

Domaine Arcelain Pommard Clos Beaudier 2021 is a refined expression of Pommard from a tiny walled vineyard (“clos”) tucked just behind the Michel Arcelain estate. This prime, well-exposed site delivers a wine that combines classic Pommard structure with an unexpected, almost silken elegance. For Burgundy lovers, it’s a compelling single-vineyard bottling that captures both the depth and charm of the 2021 vintage.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, the Clos Beaudier 2021 shows a vibrant ruby color with garnet highlights, reflecting its youth and Pinot Noir typicity. The nose opens with ripe red berries—think wild strawberry, red cherry and cranberry—layered with notes of rose petal, violet, subtle spice and a hint of forest floor that speaks clearly of Burgundy. On the palate, this Pommard is surprisingly supple, with fine-grained tannins and a juicy core of red and dark fruits. Flavors of cherry, raspberry and red plum are framed by delicate notes of baking spice, earth, and a touch of minerality from the well-exposed vineyard site. The finish is long, precise and elegant, showcasing more finesse than power, especially for Pommard. Enjoyable now with aeration, it has the structure to evolve gracefully over the next 8–12 years, gaining complexity and tertiary nuances with time in the cellar.

Production
Clos Beaudier is a walled vineyard situated just behind the Michel Arcelain estate in Pommard, benefiting from excellent sun exposure and well-drained limestone-clay soils typical of the Côte de Beaune. This terroir naturally limits yields and concentrates flavor, while preserving freshness. Grapes are traditionally harvested by hand at optimal ripeness to allow careful selection of bunches in the vineyard. In the cellar, the Pinot Noir is vinified with a gentle, classic Burgundian approach—careful destemming (often with a portion of whole clusters depending on the year), cool maceration, and fermentation in small vats, followed by aging in French oak barrels. The use of oak is typically measured, aiming to support and refine the wine’s texture without overpowering its fruit or delicate aromatics.

Food & Serving
Domaine Arcelain Pommard Clos Beaudier 2021 is a versatile partner at the table, pairing beautifully with roast duck, guinea fowl, herb-crusted lamb, or veal dishes. It also complements earthy preparations such as mushroom risotto, truffle-infused dishes, game birds, and aged semi-hard cheeses like Comté or Tomme. For optimal enjoyment, serve at 15–16°C (59–61°F). Young bottles will benefit from 45–60 minutes in a decanter to open the aromatics and soften the tannins; older vintages can be gently double-decanted just before serving.

Producer
Michel Arcelain is a traditional family domaine in Pommard, rooted in the classic values of Burgundian viticulture and winemaking. Working closely with the surrounding vineyards, the estate has long focused on expressing the individual character of its parcels, with Clos Beaudier being one of its most distinctive holdings right behind the property. Within the Côte de Beaune, Domaine Arcelain is appreciated by insiders for its hands-on, artisanal approach, careful vineyard work, and restrained use of oak, which highlight terroir over technique. Over the years, the domaine’s wines have gained a quiet but loyal following among Burgundy enthusiasts seeking authentic, site-driven Pommard with both structure and finesse.
