Description

Dom Caudron Champagne Brut Epicurienne Vieilles Vignes is a prestige cuvée crafted exclusively from old-vine Pinot Meunier in the heart of Champagne. Sourced from vineyards over 50 years old and aged on its fine lees, it delivers a richly textured, gastronomic style of Champagne designed to shine at the table. This Epicurienne expression pays tribute to the historic role of Meunier in the Marne Valley, elevating the grape from supporting player to elegant, complex star.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, this Champagne shows a luminous golden hue with fine, persistent bubbles forming a refined mousse. The nose opens with ripe orchard fruits—baked pear, yellow apple and mirabelle plum—layered with notes of brioche, toasted almonds, subtle citrus zest and a hint of spice. On the palate, the old vines speak through concentration and depth: generous fruit wrapped in a silky, almost creamy texture from extended lees aging. Flavors of stone fruit, nougat, pastry cream and lightly roasted nuts are lifted by a fresh, chalky backbone and precisely judged acidity, thanks in part to the partial malolactic fermentation. The finish is long, elegant and mouthcoating without heaviness, making it an excellent Champagne for the table rather than just an aperitif. With its structure and intensity, it has the potential to develop further complexity over the next 5–7 years, gaining more honeyed and nutty nuances with careful cellaring.

Production
The fruit for Brut Epicurienne Vieilles Vignes comes from mature Pinot Meunier vines—over 50 years old—rooted in the cool, chalk- and clay-rich soils of the Champagne region, an ideal terroir for articulating Meunier’s generous fruit and nuanced spice. Grapes are carefully harvested by hand at optimal ripeness to preserve both freshness and concentration, then gently pressed to protect the purity of the juice. After alcoholic fermentation, the wines are aged on their lees, which contributes softness, creaminess and depth to the final blend. A portion of the cuvée undergoes malolactic fermentation, striking a balance between roundness and vibrant tension, before extended aging en tirage in bottle refines the mousse and weaves together the wine’s complex flavors.

Food & Serving
This is a food-driven Champagne that pairs beautifully with refined dishes: think pan-seared scallops with beurre blanc, lobster, poultry in cream-based sauces, truffled risotto, or roasted guinea fowl. Its breadth and texture also complement richer starters such as foie gras, mushroom tart or aged Comté and Parmesan. Serve well-chilled but not icy, ideally around 8–10°C (46–50°F), to allow the full aromatic spectrum to unfold. A brief 10–15 minutes in the glass, or a short decant in a chilled carafe for more advanced bottles, can further enhance its complexity and soften the mousse.

Producer
Dom Caudron is a Champagne producer based in the historic Meunier heartland of the region, founded in honor of Abbé Odilon Caudron, a local priest who encouraged growers to join forces and elevate the reputation of their wines. Specializing in Pinot Meunier, the house has become a reference for showing just how expressive and noble this often-underestimated grape can be when treated with care and precision. Through meticulous vineyard management, selective harvesting and thoughtful, terroir-focused winemaking, Dom Caudron has helped highlight the Marne Valley’s potential and has earned a following among Champagne lovers seeking characterful, gastronomic cuvées with a strong sense of place.
