Dehesa El Carrascal, Tudon's Petit Verdot 2022

Dehesa El Carrascal Tudon's Petit Verdot 2022 is a powerful, full-bodied red from the high-altitude vineyards of southeastern Spain. Made from the late-ripening Petit Verdot grape and matured for 12 months in French and American oak, it combines concentrated dark fruit with an inviting layer of spice. It reflects the modern style of a family winery with roots dating back to 1962.

Tasting Notes
Deep and richly coloured in the glass, this Petit Verdot opens with intense aromas of blackberries, blackcurrants and ripe plums, complemented by notes of spice, toast and subtle vanilla from its oak maturation. The palate is generous and concentrated, with abundant dark fruit, firm but well-integrated tannins and a warm, lingering finish marked by peppery spice and oak complexity. While already approachable with decanting, the wine’s structure and concentration allow it to develop further over the next few years. It is best enjoyed while its ripe fruit remains at the forefront, alongside its evolving spicy and toasted nuances.

Production
The grapes come from vineyards situated around 900 metres above sea level in the warm, dry landscape of the Almansa area, where the high elevation helps preserve freshness in the ripe fruit. Following the harvest, the wine is matured for 12 months in a combination of French and American oak, adding structure as well as notes of vanilla, toast and spice while retaining Petit Verdot’s naturally intense character.

Food & Serving
Serve at approximately 16–18°C, ideally after decanting for 30–60 minutes to allow its dark fruit and spicy aromas to fully emerge. Its powerful profile makes it an excellent match for grilled or roasted red meats, lamb, game, hearty stews and richly flavoured aged cheeses.

Producer
Bodega Dehesa El Carrascal was founded in 1962 by Don Arsenio García Cañada and has remained in family hands through the second and third generations. Originally known for wines made from the local Garnacha Tintorera, the estate now produces modern wines from a range of varieties, including Petit Verdot, Merlot and Syrah. The winery is located between Alpera and Bonete in the DO Almansa, a high-altitude region north of Yecla known for its sunny, dry conditions and deeply concentrated red wines.
