Description
De Sousa Champagne Grand Cru Tre A Extra Brut is a finely crafted non-vintage cuvée that captures the precision and energy of Champagne’s greatest villages. Blending Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from Grand Cru vineyards, it delivers a bone-dry, mineral-driven style with real depth and character. Its Extra Brut dosage highlights the purity of fruit and terroir, making it a compelling choice for those who love focused, gastronomic Champagne.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, this Champagne shows a luminous pale gold hue with a fine, persistent bead and delicate mousse. On the nose, it opens with pure citrus and orchard fruit—think lemon zest, green apple, and white peach—layered with notes of brioche, toasted hazelnut, chalky minerality and a subtle floral lift.
The palate is taut and precise yet generously textured, reflecting the interplay between Chardonnay’s finesse and Pinot Noir’s structure. Bright acidity frames flavors of ripe pear, citrus, and stone fruit, evolving into hints of almond, pastry and wet stone on the long, saline finish. The Extra Brut style keeps it crisp and linear, with excellent freshness and tension. Enjoy it now for its vibrancy, or cellar it 3–6 years to gain additional complexity and creaminess while preserving its backbone.
Production
Sourced from Grand Cru vineyards in the heart of the Champagne region, Tre A draws on chalk-rich soils that lend the wine its hallmark finesse and minerality. De Sousa is known for meticulous work in the vines, often practicing low-intervention, sustainable or biodynamic methods to ensure optimal ripeness and concentration while preserving natural acidity. Grapes are harvested by hand at selective maturity to protect the fruit’s integrity, then gently pressed. Fermentation typically takes place in a combination of stainless steel and, in part, neutral oak to add texture without overpowering the freshness. Extended aging on the lees builds depth, fine bubbles and subtle autolytic notes, while the Extra Brut dosage is kept very low to allow the Grand Cru terroir to shine.
Food & Serving
This cuvée is highly versatile at the table, pairing beautifully with refined seafood dishes such as oysters, scallop crudo, sashimi, lobster, and grilled prawns. It also complements tartares, creamy goat cheeses, sushi, tempura, and delicate poultry or veal in light sauces. Serve well-chilled at 8–10°C (46–50°F) to highlight its freshness and aromatics. A brief 10–15 minutes in the glass or a quick, gentle decant in a small carafe can help the wine open up, especially if served with more complex dishes.
